‘Powerful and Moving’ Remembering Together soundwalks

‘Beautiful’, ‘evocative’, ‘haunting’, ‘powerful’, ‘moving’ - just some of the words used to describe the first Remembering Together Moray soundwalks which took place last week.

Approximately 200 people donned headphones to reflect upon Covid-19 at the events held in Aberlour, Forres, Elgin and Tomintoul from Thursday to Sunday.

The soundwalks saw both local residents and visitors to the region coming together to immerse themselves in the voices, sounds and music of Moray while reflecting upon the shared experience of the global pandemic.

Remembering Together Moray is a project created with the Moray community involving events, music and story, providing a space for collective reflection about Covid-19.

Over the past year, Moray-based lead artists Graeme Roger (wildbird) and Caroline Inckle (Studio Constella) have worked with community groups, artists and musicians to co-create a constellation of sound, words and images to support the Moray community in remembering together.

Devised by composer and sound artist Lucie Treacher, the soundwalks have been developed in collaboration with community groups and other musicians from across the region.

“We were delighted with how people responded to the soundwalks and want to thank people for their participation and wonderful feedback. We recognise that the Covid-19 pandemic is a challenging topic, but Lucie Treacher’s composition handled the subject in such a beautiful way that it gave people the space to reflect in their own individual way. There are eight soundwalk events to come over the next two weeks - we hope more people will join us in remembering together at these stunning and unexpected locations.”
