‘Landscape and Experience’: community workshops in Moray

Work is well underway for the Remembering Together Project in Moray with artists Graeme Roger and Caroline Inckle busy connecting with local partners and community groups to organise a series of workshops running throughout the Autumn.

Graeme and Caroline will be working with a wide range of community members from across Moray to generate ideas which will inform a proposal for a covid memorial for Moray. The Fochabers folk museum and heritage centre were the first to participate in a workshop to share their experience of covid and to discuss ideas for a memorial.

Other groups to participate so far have included the Lossiemouth covid response group and the Moray Council youth work art group. With around 15 groups participating throughout the autumn, the project aims to co-create a memorial proposal which considers the wide range of experiences felt by groups and individuals across Moray.

The Remembering Together Moray creative workshops will support participants to reflect on their ‘landscape of experience’ during the covid-19 pandemic. This is to acknowledge the range of diverse experiences across Moray and to help us to draw out key themes for the memorial proposal.

The Workshops will cover three broad themes. The first theme is ‘reflecting and sharing’, Where participants will create together a landscape of experience drawing on elements of nature and landscape to support them in describing feelings and emotions.

The second Theme is ‘honouring and celebrating’ where participants will reflect on who and what they want to remember together. Participants can also share elements of what has made them proud of their community during covid-19.

The third theme is ‘getting inspired' where we will look at examples of memorials from the local to the international. We will consider different ideas of what a memorial can be to help us generate ideas for our own Moray covid memorial. Participants will generate examples and ideas for a covid memorial for Moray through a mix of conversation, drawing, writing, sketching, collage & zine making depending on the needs of the group.

The workshops can be adapted to suit any age or ability and no prior experience is necessary. If you or your group would like to take part in the co-creation of a proposal for a Covid memorial for Moray, please contact: graeme_roger@hotmail.com
