Inverclyde artists begin their community conversation

As Remembering Together has got underway in Inverclyde, RIG Arts has been working with three artists that have already been engaging with local communities in varied and contrasting settings, including a community event at Port Glasgow Tesco Extra and the One Planet Picnic at Parklea Branching Out. They will be continuing their conversations with community groups and schools through a variety of events and interventions through the summer and into the autumn. Let's meet them:

Carolan McPherson is a Graphic Designer and Illustrator with a proficiency in Design Practice which allows her to push the boundaries of innovative collaboration. Her methods are both traditional and digital and has the ability to cross disciplines. She thrives on variety and currently has a portfolio career that includes community art projects and events, running creative workshops, working with various charities as well as commercial clients.

Seamus Killick is an artist and art therapist in training who works with people to understand how creative play, art making and performance can help care for individuals and communities. I’m interested in how story-telling, imagery and people can come together to ease alienation and anxiety, positioning arts purpose as a social tool for emotional wellbeing and catharsis.

Samantha Macgregor is a visual artist and arts psychotherapist with many years of experience as a participatory artist working with a range of groups and individuals. Often the art activities she creates are with a view to explore public art interventions through collecting local narratives and stories. As an art therapist she has experience of working in bereavement counselling and is very interested in the potential of Remembering Together offers in terms of creating a space where people can share their stories of love and loss and to explore together what Inverclyde would like to see as a Covid memorial for the area.
