Remembering Together is for communities and people to connect with each other, have space to express their experiences with artists/creative practitioners and shape a memorial project for their area. Some people will have lost someone during Covid. For others, this will have been a time of great change or challenges they already faced will have been made more difficult because of the pandemic. Remembering Together is about starting to remember and memorialise these people and experiences and will continue until June 2024.

Communities, individuals and groups

Every local authority area has been funded for one commissioned artist, collective, organisation or creative practitioner to co-create a memorial project. They were commissioned through partnerships in each local authority area which include councils, culture trusts, third sector organisations and arts or community organisations.

If you, your group or community would like to connect with the programme, contact the Remembering Together team at greenspace scotland or your local partner.

There are other ways to get involved in Remembering Together, you can find out more about the different ways of contributing to the programme on our Reflections and Voices page.

Artists and creative practitioners

Remembering Together is an artistic and community co-created programme. Caring for the experiences of the people that will co-create and the practice of co-creation lie at the heart of it. Artists and creative practitioners will need to use their artforms and creative skills to work with people and communities in a range of ways to explore what is meaningful for them and their area and to craft a memorial concept and idea.

Artists/creative practitioners were commissioned with £15k in Phase 1 to work with their community to explore, through co-creation, “what will our memorial be?”. Where it will exist: in a park or greenspace? A public building? Online? And what form it will take: a book? A piece of music? A site? A series of walks? Movement events? A garden? A sculpture?

The projects are now to be created in phase 2 with circa £100k per local authority area.

Remembering Together Advisory Group

Remembering Together is supported by an advisory group that helps the core team, working through greenspace scotland, to make sure the programme remains relevant to communities and aware of the challenges we are experiencing during Covid.

The advisory group also helps to ensure that Remembering Together is welcoming to all, especially those who have been disproportionately impacted by Covid, such as those of us that have been bereaved, disabled people, people of the Global Ethnic Majority, older people, children and young people. The advisory group supports Remembering Together so that those co-creating with us can express their honest responses to this pandemic, whatever they are.

You can find out more about who is on this group by visiting the Remembering Together Advisory Group page and contact us if you work with an organisation that could contribute to the programme as an advisor.
